•  “You take the words out of my mouth”: I was just going to say what you just said.

Example: “Yes, exactly, you take the words out of my mouth!

• « Having bread on the plate”: having a lot of work to do.

Example: “Today I have to do laundry, ironing, cooking, shopping and cleaning the house… I have a bread on the plate. Come on, let’s get to work! “

• “Be talkative like a magpie”: talk a lot, without stopping.

Example: “Maravilha is incredible, she talks all the time without ever stopping: she is talkative like a magpie! “

• « Putting sticks in in the wheels  » : making a project more difficult for a person, delaying it.

Example: “I didn’t get the position I wanted. My office colleague, who is jealous of my progress, has put me sticks in the wheels  : she has openly criticized me in front of the hierarchy. “

• « Counting on someone » : to have confidence in a person, to be able to rely on them.

Example: “Whatever happens to me, I know that he will always be there to help me: I can count on him. “

• “Being connected”: being trendy. 

Example: “Did you see the new clothes she’s wearing? What about her new and original jewellery? What about the latest shoes from Dior? How connected she is!»

• “Telling salads”: saying nonsense, telling false things.

Example: “The teacher called me to tell me that you had not yet come to school today. What’s your excuse this time? And don’t tell me any salad!»

• « It’s a can ! » : it’s not true, it’s a lie.

Example: “She tells everyone that she is in need, that she doesn’t have enough money to live and raise her children, but it’s a can. She has just received the inheritance of a rich uncle from the United States.. »
